You may be aware of a recent kite surfing accident at Ettalong beach just before Xmas. The unfortunate victim was our very own Richard "Chard" Johnston, a well know local peninsular musician (harmonica player), who has played and recorded with a number of local acts over the years including: Null & Void, Del Rio Drive and Micky G.
Chard had a very close call and by rights shouldn't be with us now. BUT the "resilient old bugger" that he is, is now out of hospital and is making a slow recovery at home in Woy Woy.
Chard will be on crutches for months and unable to work.
Being self employed and with a partner plus six kids under 12 to support I am looking to put together a fund raising gig to try and ease the financial burden they will certainly be under.
There will be a benefit night for Chard on Saturday the 28th of February at the Woy Woy Bowling Club. Phil Edgeley, Mickey G, Null and Void and del Rio Drive will be the local musos performing on the night. The MC will be Bill Dewdney (Coast FM).
Entry is only $20 for adults (Kids are welcome with a gold coin donation) and this includes all the live music, auctions - Framed / signed Mariners jersey, Framed Wallaby world cup Jersey, Signed cricket bat from Steve / Mark Waugh, Signed cricket bat from Matthew Hayden, Signed Surfing memorabilia from Tom Carroll and much more, door prizes, fun, raffles, finger food etc.
Organisers are still looking for assistance with donations to raffle, promotion and people to help on the night.
